Mini Skinner - Damascus with Tasmanian Blackwood
The Mini Skinner is what I call these little knives. In my opinion they are the perfect size for an every day carry fixed blade knife that will give you great performance whether you are going to town or going to the woods. The new trend in the custom knife maker world seems to be to have a steel supplier water jet out a blade blank and then send it to someone else to grind and heat treat. By the time the (maker) receives the blade the only thing remaining to do in order to finish the knife is to add the makers mark and install the pre-shaped handle scales. I personally don’t believe in (making) knives this way. As with all knives out of my shop, I believe that every step of making that knife should be done by me in order to get my makers makers mark. You don’t have to agree with me but I simply believe that if a customer is buying a knife from a custom maker, it should be a knife that has been hand forged and hand finished by that maker.
This knife, just like all other knives out of my shop has been completely made by me from raw material start to finish. The blade on this mini skinner is hand forged Damascus that has been made by and hand finished by me from high carbon 1084/15N20 steels. This particular knife has a drop point blade and Tasmanian Blackwood handle scales. The blade is 3” long while the overall length is 6-1./4”. This knife also comes with a hand tooled and hand stitched sheath that allows you to carry it either on your belt or with the lanyard as a neck knife and will allow you to carry it virtually any way you would want.
