Damascus Bowie with Blackwood
This Bowie knife has a ten inch blade and has an overall length of fifteen inches. while it is a clip point blade, it doesn’t have the standard false edge. The reason for these changes is that it was actually built as one of a set of four knives that was to be used for taking my American Bladesmith Society Master Smith performance test. I built four knives that had the same construction and heat treating etc. After testing one and two at my home shop, I took number three to the hammer in in Texarkana, TX to have the master smith witness the test. This particular one (#4) was simply never needed for the test. For the purpose of taking the test, the blade must meet certain requirements so this knife don’t have most of the more fancy extra stuff you will typically find on my larger Bowie knives like the darker etch and Damascus guard etc. It simply built to be tuff and pass a test- not to be fancy.
